O Hot Tuna foi formado em San Francisco no ano de 1969 pelo excelente guitarrista Jorma Kaukone e pelo baixista jack Cassidy ambos egressos do Jefferson Airplane.
A proposta da dupla era fugir completamente do som psicodélico do Airplane, para tanto Jorma e Jack começam a desenvolver um som bem dosado a base de blues acústico, blues elétrico e rock 'n' roll, resultado: música da melhor qualidade,o detalhe é que os caras sempre se cercaram de músicos muitos bons, nomes como Pete Sears (Outro Airplane), Papa John Greach e Bob Steeler eram presenças constantes nas gravações do Hot Tuna.
Após assinarem com o selo Grunt/Rca eles lançam em 1970 o primeiro álbum repleto de blues com muito violões, o segundo de 1971 " First Pull Up Then Pull Down " praticamente repete a fórmula do primeiro, já o terceiro " Burgers " ( O meu Preferido) traz o bom e velho rock'n'roll com passagens pelo country e a folk music,neste registro eles contaram com a participação de David Crosby (Crosby,Stills,Nash & Young)na música " Highway Song ".
A discografia do Hot Tuna é extensa são 21 discos oficiais não incluidos os singles, compilações e participações especiais, o último CD lançado por eles foi em 1999 " Hot Tuna And Furthurmore ".
Apesar de sessentões o duo continua na ativa se apresentando por todo os Estados Unidos. E o som? Ha esse continua com a mesma magia. Texto: Rockmania.
