David Crosby

David Van Cortlandt Crosby (Los Angeles, 14 de agosto de 1941) é um guitarrista, cantor e compositor dos Estados Unidos, mais conhecido por ter sido um dos fundadores das bandas The Byrds e Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Crosby é membro do Hall da Fama do Rock and Roll por seu trabalho em ambas as bandas.

Crosby é um dos maiores ícones da geração Beatnik, incorporando sua banda no imaginário popular com um som folk western electrizado. Junto com os amigos de banda Graham Nash e Stephen Stills conquistou inúmeros sucessos atingindo o apogeu na apresentação do Festival de Woodstock com outro membro ilustre na banda, Neil Young, formando um dos quartetos mais populares da música folk/rock norte-americana.

Após o período de apogeu do quarteto, nomeadamente durante os anos 70 e 80 do século XX, David Crosby entregou-se furiosamente às drogas e ao álcool entrando numa espiral descendente de degradação pessoal durante cerca de 15 anos. Nos meados dos anos 90, após mais um esforço da família para o reabilitar, David Crosby finalmente viu-se limpo de drogas e álcool, voltando de novo aos palcos, onde encontrou energia renovada por constatar que ainda tinha uma legião de fãs assinalável que o acompanhavam nos espetáculos ao vivo como antigamente.

David Crosby é, sem dúvida, um mestre da canção folk/rock e um ícone inultrapassável da cultura da segunda metade do século passado. É um poeta sessentista, mas atemporal. Suas músicas, principalmente dos anos 60/70, remetem a viajens antes inimagináveis. Sua biografia, “Long Time Gone”, é ao mesmo tempo um registro de uma época mágica, ingênua e libertária .
